Naples is a historic city in southern Italy, near the volcano Mount Vesuvius. The city is noted for its rich history, art, culture and gastronomy, playing an important role throughout much of its existence; it is over 2,500 years old.

About Naples

Naples covers an area of 45.2 sq. miles (117 square Km) and is estimated to have a population of 1.2 million people being the capital of the Campania region and the province of Naples. The city is synonymous with pizza, due to the food originating in it.

Museums

Museo Nazionale Di CapodimonteThe Reggia di Capodimonte building, destined to house porcelain production, was constructed in the large grounds by Ferdinando Fuga in 1743. The porcelain drawing room belonging to Queen Amalia of Saxony was established in 1759.

Today, the numerous rooms display collections of porcelain and china from the Real Fabbrica di Capodimonte, collections of coins and weapons, medieval armor, and Flemish tapestries. The Picture Gallery includes works by the best known painters from Naples, Italy and abroad.
